Along with the Dan Riverkeeper, The Lilies Project opposes nuclear at Duke Energy’s Belews Creek Power Station or at any other Duke Energy Locations.
The nuclear plant is incredibly expensive. We already have renewable technology available now that is far cheaper. Many nuclear projects never make it online and the rate payer still has to pay the exorbitant price tag for the facility.
Building a nuclear facility takes a tremendous amount of time and delays Duke’s legal obligation to stop burning coal by 2035.
The nuclear process will create dangerous pollution that must be maintained for perpetuity. In South Carolina, the nuclear facility never went online but became a very expensive landfill for nuclear waste from other facilities and other countries. No more waste at Belews Creek!
