Build Community Build
Build Community Build was a series of hands-on arts workshops held monthly in 2019 at the Walnut Cove Public Library to help inspire ideas for the final public art installation and other developments that we hoped to see in Walnut Cove and greater Stokes County. It was a time of creativity, fellowship and fun.
Wildflower Bank Planning

We planned a Wildflower Bank to help create a beautiful alternative to erosion control. We hope to design a lovely space for the community to enjoy and hold some public art.
Looking back, Looking Forward

Stemming off the Celebrating Courage event, we explored John L. Hairston’s contribution to building Walnut Cove and the area through his efforts with the Yadkin Valley Economic Development District, Inc.

Create a vision board for the New Year. We used old magazine clippings to fashion what we hoped to see happen in 2019.
Djano’s Lego Build

Django Burgess led us through a LEGO Build as we discussed how we are going to start with installing art around Walnut Cove. We mapped out a plan and prioritized where to get started.
music Christmas creations

We used sheet music to create some Christmas Creations. This ties in with the window display of Jester Hairston’s Christmas Spirituals in the Rutledge & Rutledge office windows. We repurposed hymnals to create paper sculptures and ornaments.

Build Community Build was a monthly series held at the Walnut Cove Public Library from December 2018 through May 2019. The purpose was to make art, discuss the final installation of The Lilies Project and to hang out with our neighbors. Maybe even make new friends. These were very free flow event that will focus on both building community and what we want to build as a community. Materials provided. This event is free and open to the public. Read more here.
