Walnut Cove Greenway Study Available for Public Review

June 11, 2022 Caroline Armijo

Ken Greenwood, Carter Spalding and Jason Reyes during the greenway planning session at the Walnut Cove Public Library.

Woo hoo! We are one step closer to a greenway in Walnut Cove!

From the Piedmont Triad Regional Commission:

Walnut Cove Greenway Feasibility Study

The Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC) applied for and received State Planning and Research funding from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to assess options for improving bicycle and pedestrian  connections between East Walnut Cove Community Park, downtown Walnut Cove, and the Walnut Tree neighborhood.

This study outlines these recommendations and provides additional supporting information about the benefits of these projects, the current conditions, implementation steps, design resources, funding resources, and a summary of the planning process.

This project meets an identified community need by providing a safe walking and biking connection between three key destinations in Walnut Cove. The project will reduce the likelihood of crashes involving bicyclists and pedestrians, improve opportunities for outdoor recreation in Stokes County, and provide greater transportation choice for local residents, while enhancing local tourism, economic development, and quality of life. This project is also supported in
NCDOT's Great Trails State Plan.

Public comments on this draft will be accepted through June 23, 2022.  Please send comments and questions to:
