Duke University MFA Candidate Will Warasila has been photographing SE Stokes County since last fall. He has captured many striking images of the people and local landscape.
We will work with Will to develop some moving contemporary images using personal “keepsakes” that have been past down or objects that have some sort of personal significance (jewelry, nicknacks, watches, etc) and photograph them on a neutral background in ash with people's hand(s) in the frame some how.
Bring your keepsakes to help collaborate on interesting images, as directed by Will. You are also welcome to bring your camera to experiment on your own and hear Will discuss his creative process.
We will not be using actual coal ash at any point during this project.
Following the workshop, we will go to The Arts Place of Stokes at 5 pm to celebrate the new Dan Riverkeeper Steven Pulliam with a third and final launch party concert by Laurelyn Dossett.
