Watch Walnut Cove
Leslie Bray-Brewer is a minister at Times of the Refreshing Path, a non-denominational church in downtown Walnut Cove. Her ministry is located in the previous home of Lois Dodson Smith, which is referred to as The Well. In the last year, the group purchased the adjoining land, which the Old Dodson Hotel site, to build a community wellness center.
For Lent 2018, Leslie created forty (plus) videos about her dreams for the transformation of Walnut Cove. She has spent many years pastoring the community, which focuses on the youth, healing, and unification between racial differences within the community. These videos have an interesting mix of history dating back to the origins of the town, recent history over Leslie's last twenty years of ministry, as well as prophecies of what is to come. Topics are wide-ranging and surprising. Frequently, Leslie was moved by the Spirit to change her message on the spot. Plus, she speaks enthusiastically about The Lilies Project in a few videos.
Storytelling is at the core of The Lilies Project. It is how we have had such a large impact sharing our story about coal ash. Our intent is to collect more stories. As I considered all the different ways to do that, I became enamored with Leslie's storytelling. These forty videos are a unique snapshot of Walnut Cove and Southeastern Stokes County through her lens. Enjoy!
