After watching, Dayna Reggero’s “The Story We Want: Persistence” from 2016, Caroline Armijo gave a powerpoint presentation given to the 7th graders of Mendenhall Middle School in Greensboro, NC.
“I really started by asking a question while working with my art. I believe that ideas are all around us waiting for our help. Elizabeth Gilbert talks about this in her book Big Magic. …
It’s important to have faith that you are being guided to help these ideas. You just need to know the next step. We have impossible problems in the world. But they are not really impossible. They just need somebody that’s willing to have the patience to guide them along.
A lot of these issues we talk about seem overwhelming. We have climate change, a pandemic, a housing shortage. But you have the tools to help you already. You can start with your art, through your play, what are the things you are really good at? what do you like? Spend sometime journaling. Disconnect from your phones.
A lot of people think that because these ideas are overwhelming, you are going to sacrifice a lot. But really what you are gaining is courage, compassion and joy. It’s been a wonderful gift to have this purpose in my life.
What are you curious about in your community?
What is your community? Community takes a lot of different forms.“
